The commission price that you would pay by working with us is absolutely no more than what you would pay were you to work directly with the artist. As a PBA agent, it is our position to guide you through the selection process that involves viewing photographs and videos of artists which we feel would best fit your requirements.
The cost of commissioning a portrait can range from $3,000. to $100,000. This is affected by the many variables you choose: the artist, background, number of figures in the painting, size, and the medium. There are numerous stylistic differences between each individual painter we represent. Some reflect the resurgence of traditional realism, while others are more expressionistic. Some artists are more established than others and many are internationally recognized. Your choices are many. Once the artist is commissioned, he or she will travel to the subject's home, office or other location for a portrait sitting. At this meeting, they might discuss the composition of the painting, the feeling the client wishes to create, and where the painting will hang. The artist will photograph and sketch the subject, then return to his/her studio and put together a preliminary drawing or study upon which the final portrait will be based. This study is then presented to the client for approval or revisions. But it must be noted that every artist has his/her individual approach to the sitting and technique. A portrait is a stylized depiction of the subject's appearance and personality, as interpreted by the artist. With so many people seeking to have portraits painted the average period of time, from the actual sitting date until delivery may be a few months to several years. It is not uncommon for people to contract, through brokers, well in advance of the actual sitting, to ensure that they can have the artist of their choice paint the portrait. |
